Rolo’s Rescue from Plastic Peril

Rolo was rushed to us after being disturbed by a dog. At first, it looked like a routine check-up for stress and minor injuries. But during the examination, our team made a shocking discovery: a tight plastic band had become lodged around his neck.

What might have seemed like a harmless piece of litter had turned into a life-threatening trap. The band was digging into the hedgehog’s skin, restricting movement and causing a painful wound. Left untreated, this would have been fatal.

Thankfully, our skilled veterinary nurse carefully removed the plastic and treated the wound with patience and care. Rolo tolerated the procedure brilliantly, proving himself to be a true, spiky little fighter.

With some rest, medication, and plenty of TLC, this resilient hedgehog is on the road to recovery. Once fully healed, he will be released back into the wild where he belongs – free to forage, snuffle, and live the life nature intended.

This story has a happy ending, but it also serves as a powerful reminder: discarded litter can be deadly to wildlife. A single plastic band, bottle ring, or piece of rubbish may seem insignificant to us, but for animals it can mean injury, starvation, or worse.

So next time you’re out and about, please think of our spiky friend and dispose of litter responsibly. Even better – pick up any you see. You could be saving a life.
