Martin’s Story…

Martin had a love for hedgehogs which began when he discovered a small hedgehog visiting his garden. He quickly grew attached, naming the little visitor Eddie. Night after night, Martin made sure Eddie had food and water, and he delighted in watching Eddie return year after year. This small bond sparked a lifelong passion for hedgehogs.

Living close to Tiggywinkles, Martin would often help injured hedgehogs by bringing them safely over to us. In 1997, he became a Member, showing his support for our work rescuing and caring for wildlife. Over the years, his home became a shrine to hedgehogs, filled with cuddly toys, teapots, sculptures, and other memorabilia – a reflection of the joy these special little creatures brought him.

When Martin decided to pledge a legacy to Tiggywinkles, he expressed a special wish: to be remembered on our ‘Wall of Fame’ (as Martin referred to it!) in the Remembrance Garden at our Visitor Centre. This special place is where we display inscribed plaques to honour those who have chosen to leave a lasting gift, helping us to continue our work rescuing and rehabilitating Britain’s wildlife.

Martin’s story is a beautiful reminder of how one person’s kindness can make a difference far beyond their lifetime. His legacy will ensure that countless hedgehogs and other wild animals receive the care they need for years to come.

We are so grateful to Martin for his incredible generosity, and we are proud to celebrate his life, his passion, and his lasting impact here at Tiggywinkles.
